Premier Radiology is a rapidly growing outpatient radiology group that has offices across Middle Tennessee. They recently partnered with St. Thomas to provide all of the hospital’s radiology services and needed to build a center within St. Thomas West’s medical office building.

The Premier Radiology office at St. Thomas project included included multiple imaging devices such as MRI, CT Scanner, RF and ultrasound imaging. The construction occurred just inside the Emergency Room entrance of St. Thomas West, and there were surgery suites above the build out space so noise and dust control were critical to the success of the project. Multiple holes had to be cored in the existing post-tensioned slab to provide access for the utilities needed in the space. The slabs in some cases were up to 24″ thick which required special x-ray equipment to evaluate the slab’s structural components and in-slab utilities.

  • Equipment Vendor Meetings The Parent Company set up pre-construction meetings with all of the equipment vendors to review the drawings to insure that all power, systems and requirements were included. This process helped us highlight critical components for each piece of equipment which were rigorously checked throughout construction. Equipment vendors were kept in the loop through schedule updates and regularly scheduled project meetings.
  • Coordination with Hospital Coordination with administrative staff as well as facility management staff allowed The Parent Company to identify critical times of the day where noise had to be kept to a minimum. We also developed a plan to build a noise and dust control partition that would not interfere with the Emergency Room access but would still allow us to perform our work.
  • Hole Coring The holes that had to be cored were identified and laid out out prior to the first wall going up so The Parent Company could evaluate if the holes could be installed per the drawings. Because of the thickness of the slabs we had to perform the x-ray at night when a 500′ barrier could be put in place. This required coordination not only with St. Thomas West’s administration and facility management staff, but also hospital security.
