Currey Ingram Academy is an independent, K-12 college preparatory school in Middle Tennessee for students with average to superior intelligence who have unique learning styles. Currey Ingram’s expansion of the Jan Carell Field House was necessary to accommodate the growing student body. The original gym served as not only the physical educating space but also the dining hall. Currey Ingram Academy needed more court space to schedule physical education classes for all grades.

Close coordination with the administrative staff and P.E. coaches was critical to the successful completion of this project. Temporary Barricades were built to keep the noise, dirt and weather out of the existing facility while protocols were developed to allow for egress in the event of an emergency. Work areas were cleared and egress paths were marked at the end of each work day to insure a safe travel route for after hours events. Integration with existing systems was completed after hours or on weekends to minimize the impact on campus activities.

Active Facility The Gym Expansion was directly connected to the existing gym. The existing gym was in service throughout the construction. Noise, dust and the environment had to be controlled to keep the existing gym in operation.

Student & Staff Safety Students and staff were in close proximity to the construction. Emergency egress for the existing gym had to be maintained through the construction area during construction.
